She is Brave

She is Brave
Cherie Lewis, January 13, 2018

Once she had courage.
There were children to raise,
Mouths to feed,
People to praise.

She matured, they left home.
Desire lost power.
Days became weeks,
Years passed by the hour.

Exploration felt futile,
The road so forlorn.
Traveling unstable,
A new “her” was born.

Fear gripped her hard,
Anxiety a table
Where she laid out her heart
And mind so unstable.

Where went her courage?
Where went her fire?
Why is she trembling?
Where is her desire?

“Enough!” she’s declared.
Afraid but empowered
She is taking on life
Shaking off what has soured.

She is brave,
She is strong,
Star-brilliant,
A song!

A song must be sung,
Be written in time
She is the music
Her heart beating the rhyme.

She is brave,
She is song,
Star-brilliant,

Life-strong.
