MAKING GOD TIRED

This morning I was doing my devotions and burst out laughing. My roommate commented that she had never heard anyone laugh while reading their Bible. Something about this particular passage struck me funny considering the state of our union right now.

"Listen to this, government of David! It's bad enough that you make people tired with your pious, timid hypocrisies, but now you're making God tired."

It might have been directed at us.

You know that God indeed scolds us when necessary. Hebrews 12:11 in The Message says, "....discipline isn't much fun. It always feels like it's going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off big-time."

Think about siblings bickering and arguing and wanting to outshout the other. Eventually a parent is going to step in and shout "That's enough!"

These precious few words made me laugh because God disciplines us like the children we are. We are making God tired.

Political heat. Road rage. Standing in lines. Complaining. Covid. Poor God. Not pitifully, but Bless Him, He gets tired, too!

In the midst of the sudden laughter, I found joy in knowing that just at the right time, He puts a stop to our bickering. This particular passage was an exhortation and a promise.

We don't HAVE to be divided. We don't HAVE to be right. We just have to be righteous and without Jesus....we just aren't.

Did you notice all the early Christmas popping up in neighborhoods before Thanksgiving arrived? We are all tired. We forget God got tired and gave us the gift of letting it go so that we could celebrate and love one another instead. And all of us are seeking Christmas joy early so that we CAN.

Is it hard? YES. Do we all have strong opinions? YES. In the eternal perspective does it matter all that much? Probably not.

So I've prayed earnestly that our competition to be right stops here and now. Sending His Son was only the beginning. It's our responsibility now to stop exhausting God and testing His patience. He gave us the BEST of Himself so that we could escape the constant pious nature we possess.

How to wrap this up?

Just.....stop. We are all people, all created in God's image, all given the gift of Jesus so that we all have access to His righteousness. When it comes down to it? GOD is right.

Love you!
