THERE ARE LINES ON MY FACE

There are lines on my face. I own them quite well.

They're from staring into a deep water's swell.

They ae proof of how much I love sun shining days,

And from studying others or the earth's unique ways.

I've got lines on my face, from laughing and smiles,

And tears that I've cried for miles and miles.

Lines wrought from pondering sometimes with a frown,

And a deep loneliness that makes me feel like I'll drown.

There are lines on my face from learning and growing,

From preposterous thoughts to an intense just knowing.

There are lines on my face that I've boldly earned.

It takes strength to live life when you've been badly burned.

But there are lines on my face wrought from humor and laughter,

And from joyous moments to last from now to long after.

The lines on my face are from growing old and with grace,

And each time I retrace them in the mirror, my face

Reminds me a life well-lived, that I've run the race.
